Lukas Podolski to swap Arsenal for FC Koln return?

12 July 2014 - 06:52

German side FC Koln are reportedly preparing a 15 million euro bid to sign Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski. Historically, Podolski is the German club's most prolific goalscorer and has already enjoyed two separate spells at his home club. The Gunners originally signed the 29-year-old from the Cologne side back in 2012.

  • Arsenal midfielder withdraws from international duty

  • Arsenal have already signed Chile international Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and look forward to the return to full fitness of Theo Walcott, thus leaving Podolski's first team opportunities next season limited.

The German international, looking forward to a World Cup final this weekend, has been with the Gunners for two years and is immensely popular in the dressing room at Arsenal; but Arsene Wenger cannot guarantee the player first team action.

FC Koln are newly promoted back to the Bundesliga after a season in the second division and manager Peter Stoger has made the signing of Podolski his priority this summer.

Arsenal will consider the sale of the player for the right price and if the reports are indeed true and that Koln are preparing a 15 million euro bid, the player is likely to be heading for the Emirates exit door.
