Thomas Muller has said that he turned down an 'astronomical' offer from Manchester United this summe

German international star Thomas Muller has revealed that he turned down a massive offer to join English giants Manchester United this summer.

The Bayern Munich forward was linked to a move to Old Trafford after it was reported that the Red Devils’ newly-appointed boss Louis Van Gaal was keen on bringing the 24-year-old to the Premier League.

Muller, who progressed through the Bavarians youth system, made his senior team debut for the Allianz Arena outfit in 2009 during the Dutch manager’s stint with the Bundesliga club and a possible reunion of the two was on the cards.

But all speculations were laid to rest when the player signed a five-year contract extension, keeping him in Germany till 2019, but insisted that he was aware of United’s interest in him.

“Of course - I was aware I could theoretically earn more with a transfer”, Muller told German newspaper Sport Bild.

“The sums that were standing by from foreign clubs were already astronomical. I can only say that a change was never really an issue anyway”, he added.

Muller has made 165 league appearances for Bayern Munich since his debut, netting the ball on 58 occasions.  He was also a key member of the Eagles’ World Cup winning squad, where he won the Silver Boot award for scoring five goals in the tournament in Brazil last month.
