Borini wanted by Sunderland

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has admitted that he would love to seal a deal for out-of-favour striker Liverpool striker Fabio Borini in January, Sky Sports reports.

The Italy international played an influential role on loan at the Black Cats last season, and they beat the drop in the final stages of the league campaign.

Liverpool were believed to have agreed on a £14m offer from Sunderland for Borini over the summer, only for the Italian to change his mind and stay put at the Merseyside.

Poyet has now insisted that he could move for the talented striker once more in the upcoming transfer window.

"I would love to," He said. "It is difficult to explain. It was a long summer and the things everyone knows, we agreed a price and we flew to America [for Liverpool's pre-season tour] and he didn't come.

Borini joined Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2012.
