Ashley Cole turned down Newcastle United

Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is understood to have rebuffed a deadline day move to Newcastle United.

Cole joined Italian giants AS Roma from Chelsea in 2014, and has since then struggled to settle to the style of play.

It has been speculated that the former England international could seek a move to Major League Soccer following his dismal spell at the Capital outfit.

Reports in Italy now confirm that the 34-year-old has rejected a switch back to the Premier League with the Magpies.

The veteran full-back is thought to have no future at Roma after he was left out of the club's squad lists for the 2015/16 season.
