Savage - United may struggle for goals

Robbie Savage has admitted that Manchester United may struggle to attain on a top four spot this season given the lack of forwards in their squad.

The Red Devils moved to sign AS Monaco youngster Anthony Martial on transfer deadline day, whilst they retained the services of goalkeeper David de Gea after his move to Real Madrid fell through at the 11th hour due to delayed submission of documents.

However, Savage feels that the former Premier League champions are bit light upfront and they might need a lot of luck to match last season's result.

"Before a ball was kicked last month, I fancied United to win the title because their early-summer transfer business had been excellent, especially in central midfield, and they were only a couple of major signings away from justifying my optimism," he wrote on The Mirror.

"Now they will be lucky to improve on last year’s fourth place. How on earth they reached a farcical situation with four goalkeepers but only two central strikers – Wayne Rooney and £36million punt Anthony Martial – in their squad is beyond me."
