Man Utd make Marquinhos contact

Manchester United are understood to have held discussions with the agent of Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos. The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.

Marquinhos is believed to be frustrated at Parc des Princes after manager Laurent Blanc decided to offer him a regular league start only after his side's title-winning moment in March.

According to Telefoot, the Red Devils have held initial talks with the player's entourage as they seek to add more steel to their backline ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

Spanish giants Barcelona are deemed favourites to sign the central defender, but the arrival of Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford could yet turn the player's head towards Manchester.

The 'Special One' is likely to replace Louis van Gaal as the club's next manager in the coming days.

Marquinhos has appeared in over 130 games for Les Parisiens following his switch from Roma in 2013.
