United have begun talks to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford

Manchester United have begun talks with Juventus over a potentially world record breaking swoop for Paul Pogba, according to reports in the French media today.

L'Equipe is reporting that discussions have been held between United and Juve over the possibility of midfield superstar Pogba returning to Old Trafford.

Pogba left United in 2012 to join the Old Lady on a free transfer, after growing frustrated at his lack of first team opportunities under then-United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pogba was an instant hit in Turin, helping the Bianconeri secure four successive Serie A titles, as well as reaching the 2015 Champions League final.

It is believed that United have always held an interest in bringing Pogba back to Old Trafford, but it now seems that new boss José Mourinho has convinced the club's hierarchy to act on that interest by making a substantial bid for the 23-year-old.

The report claims that initial talks between the two clubs have been held, with Juve reluctant to lose their flamboyant star, and would only consider offers of €100 million or higher.

Apparently United executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward, will fly to Italy next week to hold further talks with Juventus officials, at which point a firm offer could be tabled.

L'Equipe also claims that it has always been part of Pogba's career plan to someday return to United, while Mourinho intends to line the Frenchman up alongside Wayne Rooney and compatriot Morgan Schneiderlin in a 4-3-3 formation next season.
