Real Madrid make late bid to hijack Man Utds Pogba move

Perez and Zidane plotting Pogba hijack

Real Madrid are making a late push to try and hijack Manchester United's move to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, despite the Red Devils being close to finalising a deal for the Frenchman, according to reports.

ESPN FC reported last night that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has been in contact with Pogba several times over the last few days, in an attempt to get the player to reject the chance of re-joining United in favour of signing for Madrid.

It is also believed that Madrid president Florentino Perez has reached out to his contacts within the Juventus hierarchy to try to get them to stall on the Pogba deal with United, while he plots a swoop to snatch the talented 23-year-old midfielder.

It has been widely reported in recent weeks that Pogba's preference would be to sign for the eleven time champions of Europe over a return to United.

However, it is believed that Madrid would be unwilling to match the finances that United are throwing at the deal, with the sum being demanded by the player's agent, Mino Raiola, a particular stumbling block for Perez.

Despite Madrid's late move, it seems most likely that United will win the race for Pogba's signature, in what stands to be a world record transfer fee, surpassing the £85.3 million that Real Madrid paid to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.
