Man Utd receive boost in Reece Oxford pursuit

The youngster only has 18 months left on his west Ham deal

Manchester United have been given a boost in their hopes of signing West Ham United starlet Reece Oxford, with the youngster stalling over a new contract with the Hammers, according to reports.

ESPN FC is reporting that Manchester United target Reece Oxford is stalling over a contract offer from his current club West Ham United, with the Old Trafford club hopeful of swooping in and stealing the 17-year-old away in a cut price deal.

United’s local rivals Manchester City are also believed to be interested in Oxford, and the two clubs could go head to head over signing the England youth international.

Oxford is one of the most highly rated young prospects in English football, having made his Premier League debut last season at the tender age of 16.

Of his 12 appearances for the East London club during the last campaign, the early season win over Arsenal at the Emirates was perhaps his finest.

Oxford started as a defensive midfielder in that game – although he is perhaps more comfortable as a central defender – as earned rave reviews for the way he was able to stymie the Gunners’ attacks, why acting responsibly in possession.

United are believed to have been tracking the promising youngster for some time, and could make their move for the teenage soon, as he only has 18 months remaining on his current deal.
