Chelsea tried to sign Pogba, says agent

Pogba was wanted by the Blues

Chelsea tried to sign Paul Pogba last season, before the French midfielder eventually re-joined Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

The Mirror is reporting that Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola claims that Chelsea made an attempt to sign the Frenchman last summer, but were unsuccessful.

The Blues were managed by United boss Jose Mourinho throughout the 2015 summer transfer window and the Portuguese coach was apparently determined to land Pogba.

Upon joining United at the end of last season, Mourinho identified four key transfer targets, of which Pogba was one.

This time Mourinho got his man, as the flamboyant midfielder signed for the Red Devils in a world record breaking £89 million move from Juventus.

In what developed into one of the transfer sagas of the summer, there was much media speculation about whether Pogba would return to Old Trafford after leaving the club as a teenager in 2012.

But United pulled off the monumental deal, making Pogba their fourth signing of the window after the arrivals of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henriikh Mkhitaryan.

Pogba scored his first goal for United in their 4-1 victory over Premier League champions Leicester City last weekend, a game in which he was also voted man of the match for his superb display.

And he will be hoping for more of the same as United take on Stoke City on Sunday.
