Chelsea plan to break club-record for EPL striker
Premier League holders Chelsea are reportedly keen on re-signing Everton striker Romelu Lukaku after having cooled their interest in Antonio Conte favourite Alvaro Morata.
Morata, 24, has had limited playing time at Real Madrid this season, and this has led to suggestions that he could push for a fresh challenge during the summer transfer window.
According to The London Evening Standard, the Blues do not have Morata as their top priority with a move for Lukaku being a preference among the club's hierarchy.
Technical director Michael Emenalo is understood to have influenced the club's decision, and the club will seek to hold discussions with Everton, who are holding for a world-record £100m sum for his transfer.
Lukaku has been reluctant to pen a Toffees extension beyond 2019, and this could see his price drop ahead of this summer's transfer window.
In spite of this, Chelsea will have to break their own transfer record - previously held by Fernando Torres' £50m move from Liverpool - in order to bring Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku ended the season with 25 goals in the Premier League - only behind Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane who won the Golden Boot with 29.
