Atletico interested in Costa return

Diego Costa is rarely out of the news pages these days. Often spoken about, whether it be his great scoring record, his questionable temperament or reports linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge, the Spanish striker is regularly spoken about. Today, it is suggested that his former club Atletico Madrid are once again showing interest in taking him back to La Liga.

Costa joined Chelsea in 2014 and has been a fan favourite ever since. Throughout the duration of this season, he has admitted that he was tempted to move back to Atletico during pre-season and has also been heavily linked with a move to the Chinese Super League.

It is the opinion of many that Costa will leave Chelsea for the financial power of China this summer, however, The Sun reports today that Atletico Madrid have asked to be updated with any developments on the situation. 

Atletico are moving to a new stadium next season and would like a big name signing to help bring in supporters to the new 68,000 capacity arena. The club also has ambitions of seriously challenging for the La Liga title, and the goals of Costa would help them to do so. 

The Madrid club's desire to reacquire their former striker may intensify further if they lose current talisman Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United. Chelsea are of course very keen to keep hold of their centre-forward, but he may feel like his playing time could be reduced if they continue to chase Romelu Lukaku.
