Stoke City's record signing Giannelli Imbula is set to leave the club and join Ligue 1 side Nice, who were the league's surprise package last season - finishing in an impressive third place.

Imbula joined The Potters in February 2016 for £18.3 million, which is the highest fee that the club has ever paid for a player.

After impressing during the remainder of that season, Imbula was expected to really establish himself in the Premier League and become a key part of the Stoke side.

That failed to materialise and the former French youth international found himself left out of manager Mark Hughes' plans, making just twelve league appearances throughout the whole of last season.

As Hughes looks to improve his side over the summer and break into the top half of the league, Imbula is one of the players who appears to be on the lookout for a new club.

The Sun reports that Marseille, Galatasaray and Roma are interested in Imbula, but Nice are the club who currently look closest to completing a deal.

Stoke City are looking to redeem £15 million for their midfielder, but Nice appear to prefer an initial loan deal before committing to a permanent deal.
