Antonio Conte wanted to sell Michy Batshuayi last summer
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had planned to offload Michy Batshuayi during the summer transfer window, only for his request to be blocked by the Blues' hierarchy.
The Belgium international managed just one Premier League start under Conte last term, and it was clear that he would struggle to become a regular irrespective of Diego Costa's departure from Stamford Bridge.
According to The Mirror, Batshuayi could have made a surprise switch to Tottenham Hotspur, had Conte got his wish to sell the Belgian - prior to the start to the season.
Ultimately, the Blues knocked back the approach from Spurs, and they faced further disappointment after the north London club went on hijack a deal for Fernando Llorente from Swansea City.
As a result, Conte could not bring a new marksman to his ranks, whilst he was also frustrated at missing out on the likes of Alex Sandro and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who were regarded as valuable additions.
Conte has recently dismissed talks of a rift with his players over the training regime which has resulted in injuries to a number of first-team stars this term.
Chelsea host close neighbours Watford in Saturday's early Premier League kick-off from Stamford Bridge. The Blues are presently two points adrift of Watford, who occupy the final Champions League spot.
