Defoe brace sinks Wigan
Portsmouth 2-0 Wigan Athletic
Jermain Defoe's blazing form saw Portsmouth go home with three points, Wigan are now facing the relegation zone with this defeat.
The English striker continued his purple patch in front of goal and scored two goals to take Portsmouth to sixth in the Premier League.
Utaka stormed into the Wigan box and his shot looped towards the far post where Defoe squeezed the ball into the net from an acute angle.
Defoe secured the win later beating the offside trap. Earlier, Ryan Taylor had a penalty saved by David James.
Wigan is currently in the bottom half of the table having got only 31 points from 32 matches.
