Barcelona defeated by Depor
Barcelona were given a shock 2-0 defeat by La Liga rivals Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday evening, with a statement of intent that showed the Catalan side have one eye on Champions League success.
Juan Rodriguez and Pablo Amo both scored second half goals as Deportivo continued their close-season recovery, which has now extended to 10 victories in 14 outings.
Barcelona had their priorities elsewhere as Samuel Eto'o, Lionel Messi and Xavi were all rested, Andres Iniesta and Gabriel Milito were suspended, Ronaldinho was still missing through injury, while Deco, Victor Valdes and Eric Abidal started the match on the bench.
The first goal came when Lafita did well on the right to drive in a low cross that the unmarked Rodriguez diverted past Pinto from close range.
The second was a cracker as former Bolton winger Christian Wilhelmsson drived in a free kick for Pablo Amo to head home at the back stick.
