Real win but must wait for title
Real Madrid were unable to clinch their 31st Primera Liga title on Sunday despite romping to a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao. Goals from Javier Saviola, Arjen Robben and Gonzalo Higuain earned the three points and took Madrid a step closer to the title.
Madrid opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Saviola celebrated his recall to the side by pouncing sharply after Bilbao goalkeeper Armando Ribeiro had spilled Robinho's low shot.
Higuain and Robben came off the bench in the 72nd minute and made an immediate impact, with Higuain's low cross turned home by the Dutchman two minutes later.
Argentinian Higuan then curled home a spectacular goal in the 76th but it wasn't enough to lift the title just yet - despite making celebrations to do so - as Villarreal won 1-0 at Real Betis.
