Jiménez to stay at Sevilla
Sevilla FC coach Manolo Jiménez has brushed aside all rumours enveloping his coaching job at the Andalusian club by saying that the current Getafe coach Michael Laudrup needs to find another club if he indeed departs from Getafe at the end of the season.
Manolo Jimenez took over the coaching job at Sevilla in October this season after Juande Ramos ditched them to take charge of the Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur. At the time Sevilla were way out of a UEFA Cup spot but Jimenez, who is actually a former Sevilla player and is Sevilla through and through, have led the club to a fifth place finish in La Liga table that guarantees them UEFA Cup football next season.
But it is speculated that Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido is not happy with the result although the president has publicly stated that he is happy enough to play in the UEFA Cup next season. Sevilla finished third in the league rankings last season and reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League this season.
So playing in the UEFA Cup would be a step backward for Sevilla and this is why it is being speculated that Manolo Jimenez would be replaced by a more capable and experienced coach. The man most think will be in charge of Sevilla next season s the current Getafe boss Michael Laudrup.
The former Danish international’s agent Bayram Tutumlu was quoted as saying on Wednesday that Laudrup would certainly consider taking up the Sevilla job but Jimenez insists that such tall talks and speculation do not affect him. He says:
Tutumlu] has to find a new club for Laudrup if he wants to leave Getafe and this seems like a good way of doing it to him I am not nervous about [my future], I am only ever nervous before a game of football
Manolo Jimenez was less certain about the current transfer talks on Sevilla right back Daniel Alves who is said to be one foot out of Sevilla and one foot inside Barcelona. Jimenez says:
“If they do sign him then they will sign one of the best full-backs in the world.”
