Vermaelen to Arsenal

Thomas Vermaelen could well be Arsene Wenger's big summer signing after there were rumours from Holland this morning that Arsenal were ready to make a £10 million offer.

The defender, currently at Ajax and playing for the Belgium international team, is regarded as one of the best prospects in the Netherlands.

He is expected to arrive in London to thrash out a deal over the coming three weeks.
