Palacios targets Champions League

24 March 2010 - 13:10

Spurs midfielder Wilson Palacios claims every footballer at White Hart Lane is now focused on securing Champions League football for next season.

  • Chelsea to make approach for Morgan Rogers?
  • Chelsea star determined to join Barcelona?
  • The North London club are currently fourth in the Premier League following their 2-1 win over Stoke at the weekend, but are only two points ahead of a Manchester City side who have played a game less.

In recent weeks Palacios has been linked with a move to a bigger club, but in the Sun the Honduran star said he was "very happy" at the club and wanted to play in Champions League for Harry Redknapp's side

    .

"We have worked very hard to get to fourth position," Palacios said.

"I think if we keep on working hard we can achieve what we want. We are in a great position and we are all very concentrated on keeping that fourth spot."

Spurs play Portsmouth and Sunderland in their next two top flight games as they look to stay ahead of their rivals in the battle for the Premier League top four. Currently, the online football odds make City favourites to clinch the last Champions League spot.

However, Spurs face playing those key games without top scorer Jermain Defoe, who is out after experiencing a hamstring tear.

The loss of their 23-goal forward could be significant, and they hope to have him back for matches against Arsenal and Chelsea during April.

Despite the injury, Defoe should still be fit to travel to South Africa with the England squad.

Currently, the World Cup 2010 betting makes England third favourites to win the competition.
