Arsenal have confirmed the permanent sale of Nacho Monreal to Real Sociedad. The Spain international had just 11 months remaining on his Gunners deal and the north London giants have sanctioned his departure for a nominal fee.

The 33-year-old started the first three league games for the Gunners this term but there was still speculation that he could make the return to the Spanish La Liga after receiving a tempting offer from Sociedad.

Earlier this week, there were suggestions that he could feature in the north London derby before making the exit but that has certainly not been the case with the Gunners now confirming his sale.

“We would like to thank Nacho for his contribution to the club and everyone at Arsenal wishes him the best for his future," a statement read on the Gunners' official website.

Monreal spent six-and-a-half years with the Capital outfit and during this period, he was able to make 250 appearances while contributing 10 goals and 20 assists for the side.

He is most fondly remembered for the FA Cup semi-final goal against Manchester City in 2017 which contributed to a 2-1 comeback triumph. The Gunners went on to beat Chelsea to clinch the trophy back then.
