Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is reportedly set to sign a new contract with the club at the end of the summer despite growing transfer links with Kylian Mbappe.

The 29-year-old remains a key part of Zinedine Zidane’s side, having held off competition from Alvaro Morata for a starting place last season, leading to the Spaniard moving to Chelsea.

Benzema’s place looks to be under threat again as speculation grows that Mbappe is on his way to the Bernabeu from Monaco, but Marca claim he’s set to commit his future to the Spanish giants.

The report states that Benzema would likely extend his deal until 2021 or 2022, with his current contract due to expire in 2019.

The Frenchman has been with Los Blancos since all the way back in 2009, and has gone on to score 180 goals in 365 games for the club, winning three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles in that time.

Despite long being linked with Premier League clubs, Benzema looks ready to continue to play the supporting role for Galactico stars around him at Real by committing the rest of his peak years to the club.

The Mbappe deal remains an ambitious one for Madrid, but latest reports suggest progress is being made on a world-record £161million deal after the 18-year-old’s stunning breakthrough season for Monaco last term.

The teenage forward looks ready to go straight into Zidane’s first XI, and previous reports have suggested the club would sell one of it’s ‘BBC’ attacking trio if he were to arrive.

Gareth Bale has looked the most likely to go and has been linked again with Manchester United, and reports of Benzema’s new contract will only add to the feeling that the Welshman is likely to be the one to make way if Mbappe does complete his move.
