The vice-president of Sampdoria held talks with Tottenham over a potential transfer for Joachim Andersen after jetting into London on Wednesday for a number of meetings, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian news outlet claim that Antonio Romei travelled to England to meet with a number of parties over differing issues at the Serie A side, with one of those said to be the future of centre back Andersen.

It is stated that the Sampdoria chief met with figures from the north London club with a potential deal for the 22-year-old the prime reason for the talks, with the report claiming that Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX has stated that Andersen as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

Opinion

The transfer window might be closed but that does not mean that business ever stops and it is clear that Tottenham are priming themselves to be carrying out some serious business come the summer. Their fans have not seen a new face through the door for over a year now, Lucas Moura their last signing, and for a club of their ambitions it is clear that they need to start strengthening once again if they want to hit the heights they believe they can. Alderweireld’s future has been one of much discussion over the last 12 months and so it seems as Spurs are looking to find a long term replacement. Is Andersen the man to fill those massive shoes of the Belgian’s? At 22-years-old he definitely has time on his side and is obviously highly rated for both club and country, being a mainstay at Sampdoria while having 16 caps for Denmark’s under-21 side. Stepping up to England’s top flight is no easy feat but look at how Davinson Sanchez has progressed since his move from Ajax. Could Andersen partner the Colombian for years to come? Time will tell.
