Jess Fishlock to become first footballer to hit 100 caps for Wales

Seattle Reign midfielder Jess Fishlock is set to win her 100th cap when Wales Women host Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

Fishlock, 30, will become the first Wales international to reach a century of senior caps if she plays.

Wales also face the same opponents on Friday, 7 April with both games played at Ystrad Mynach.

Yeovil Town striker Helen Ward was not included after picking up an injury during the Cyprus Cup in March.

Kath Morgan, the first Welsh woman to top 50 caps paid tribute to Fishlock, saying: "I know what Jess has been through.

"I know all the trials and tribulations and the injuries and the fact she's trying to make a career travelling the world playing football.

"It is a massive, massive commitment and dedication and personally I feel in the world of women's football she should be a national treasure."

Former Wales Women's manager Jarmo Matikainen had Fishlock as captain during his four-year tenure.

He told the Football Association of Wales:, external "Jess has this fantastic passion for playing for Wales, and she was brilliant for us in that respect.

"Playing for her country is so important to her. She has this incredible respect for it means to represent her country, and her commitment to Wales is admirable.

"During my time with Wales, Jess always displayed a real team and work ethic in everything she did, and it's fantastic to see her reaching 100 caps."

Ffion Morgan and Gwennan Davies received first senior call-ups.

Wales are playing Northern Ireland twice in preparation for the upcoming Fifa Women's World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Qualification for the tournament in France in 2019 will begin in September 2017 with Wales' group opponents yet to be decided.
