Chelsea transfer news: Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri deals hinge on one key factor

CHELSEA are closing in on a double swoop for Roma duo Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri, according to reports.

Antonio Conte has been desperate to further bolster his squad in the January transfer window following the acquisition of Ross Barkley earlier this month.

And bringing in a back-up striker to Alvaro Morata has been a top priority with a host of names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Ashley Barnes are some of the names bandied around as possible targets for Chelsea.

However, it seems Dzeko has emerged as the preferred choice with Roma seemingly willing to do business.

His fellow Roma team-mate Emerson could also be set to join him in moving to Chelsea.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio claims the deal could hinge on Michy Batshuayi heading in the opposite direction.

It is said the Serie A giants want £44million paid up front with £9m in add-ons for both Emerson and Dzeko.

The report goes on to suggest if Batshuayi isn’t included in the deal, Roma could turn their attentions to Daniel Sturridge.

The Liverpool striker looks set to be on his way out of Anfield this month with both Sevilla and Inter Milan battling to take him on a short-term loan.

Roma’s director of football Monchi hinted Dzeko had played his last game for the club prior to their match against Inter Milan at the weekend.

"Whatever will be will be. I work every day to have players suitable to replace our players, my job is always to strengthen my club.

"If [Dzeko] leaves Roma, we'll buy another player."
