Unai Emery outcast Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to send Arsenal fans a message about his connection to the club.

In a tweet sent on his official account, the German quoted former Gunners talisman Dennis Bergkamp to align himself with supporters to get behind the team.

On Thursday night, the Premier League side suffered a shock 1-0 loss away to BATE Borisov in the Europa League to leave their chances of progressing in the competition hanging by a thread.

Alexandre Lacazette was sent off late in the second half while Ozil was left out of the squad completely by Emery.

He explained his decision in his pre-match press conference n Minsk.

"The players we didn’t bring in the squad were because Aaron Ramsey did not train with us and Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] only started training yesterday and today," he said. "I don’t think it’s enough.

"Mesut is the same. [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, after he was sick, trained on Monday, yesterday and today, and I think he’s OK for the match."

On his official account, Ozil tweeted the following quotes from Bergkamp: "When you start supporting a football club, you don't support it because of the trophies or a player, or history, you support it because you found yourself somewhere there found a place where you belong."

The 30-year-old has been missing from a number of key fixtures for Arsenal this season as speculation grows over his future and Emery's plans for the former Real Madrid playmaker.

He is the highest-paid member of a squad at a club that were unable to make any permanent signings during the summer transfer window due to financial constraints.
