Maguire live transfer Man Utd live Maguire transfer latest…

Harry’s game continues
The Sun
are back with another Harry Maguire update. And this time it is not Damian Burchardt/Tom Barclay, but Jordan Davies…

‘MANCHESTER CITY still believe they can win the race for Harry Maguire ahead of rivals United.’

Well that’s really sodding arrogant as surely Manchester United agreed an £80m fee for Maguire over the weekend and he had a medical on Monday?

‘Both clubs have had initial bids of £65million plus add-ons rejected by Leicester.’

But then ‘MANCHESTER UNITED agreed a world-record £80million deal’ over the weekend, surely?

‘As SunSport exclusively revealed on Sunday, Maguire has told his Foxes team-mates he wants out of the King Power – and is said to be flattered by interest from Old Trafford.’

No. What SunSport exclusively revealed on Sunday was that Manchester United had agreed an £80m fee for Harry Maguire and the medical was set for Monday.

Odd how that has slipped their minds now Monday has become Tuesday and Harry Maguire is still training with Leicester.

Live Maguire transfer live
Obviously, it hasn’t slipped everybody’s mind at The Sun as they are more than happy to headline their Manchester United live transfer blog thus on Tuesday morning:

’10am Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Longstaff ‘talks’, De Gea LATEST, £80m Maguire EXCLUSIVE, Ramsey snubbed United’

Why? Because that makes you top of Google’s search results for ‘Maguire’, that’s why. And what else really matters?

Push it real good…
Oh and they are more than happy to re-publish this on Tuesday morning to keep it fresh for Google…

These really are pretty miserable bloody times.

Medical cover
But The Sun have competition from the Daily Express website, who posted this on Tuesday morning…

‘Harry Maguire leaves Leicester training camp to undergo Man Utd medical in next 48 hours’

…based on a podcast released on Monday.

Move closer…
There’s clearly money to be made in suggesting that Manchester United are close to making a signing, which is why you get this on the shameless talkSPORT:

‘RUMOUR MILL Transfer news and gossip LIVE: Key Man United deal close, Spurs have NOT bid for Bale, Newcastle agree Bruce fee’

If you’re muttering ‘I bet it’s David de f***ing Gea’, then congratulations, for you have been reading Mediawatch too long.

How much?
‘How Cristiano Ronaldo helped Juventus seal Matthijs de Ligt transfer as £67.5m deal is ‘agreed” – Rich Jones, Daily Mirror website, July 16, 00.29.

‘How Paul Pogba impacted Matthijs de Ligt’s Juventus transfer – Matthijs De Ligt is expected to undergo his medical with Juventus this week, arriving for a fee of £60m from Ajax’ – Matt Maltby, Daily Mirror website, July 16, 07.58.

Seven hours saw one hell of a drop in the exchange rate. But absolutely no change in the ‘how a more-Googled name is connected to this other transfer’ tactic of click-gathering.

Identity parade

Congratulations if you guessed that this mystery man would be ‘a player in the mould of Old Trafford great Bryan Robson’.

What’s £6.5m between friends?
‘DAVID DE GEA is ready to sign an eye-watering £91MILLION five-year deal when Manchester United return from their pre-season tour’ – The Sun.

‘DAVID DE GEA is set to sign a new deal worth £97.5million at Manchester United – making him the world’s highest-paid keeper’ – The Daily Mirror.

Costcutter
The campaign continues to save money for one of the richest football clubs in the world…

Now if only they could find a way to make Manchester United any good…

A fine romance

‘Bruce will manage his boyhood club, just like Dean Smith at Aston Villa.

‘Frank Lampard has made an emotional return to Chelsea, as has Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

‘How odd to see the greed-is-good Premier League discovering a taste for romance.’

Dave Kidd of The Sun must be the only person in the world to see Mike Ashley in a romantic light.

And how ‘romantic’ that he approached his filthy ex Sam Allardyce first.

Pumped-up kids
Last week the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law crawled up the back passage of the new Chelsea manager as he wrote of the ‘I was there’ moment for Chelsea fans as the Blues played Bohemians. He went a tad over the top. Here is what he wrote on Ethan Ampadu:

‘Lampard had insisted that he would offer all of his players clean slate and he remained good to his word, with teenager Ethan Ampadu, barely used by Sarri, partnering Drinkwater in a holding midfield two.

‘Ampadu was clearly determined to try to make an early impression as he pressed high and aggressively, just as Lampard demanded of his Derby County team last season.’

This week: Frank Lampard confirms that Ethan Ampadu will leave on loan.

It’s almost like he was just using the kids in pre-season…like every other bloody Premier League manager.

Love and understanding

Yep. That’s how transfers work. We understand too.

Every loser wins
The Daily Mirror’s John Cross pinpointed the winners and losers (where did he get the idea?) from Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids.

You have to feel for Matt Macey, who ‘was not really troubled and did himself no harm’ while keeping a clean sheet, but still somehow ended up a ‘loser’.
