Agent jets into London today to secure transfer of Arsenal attacker – report

By Russell Edge

The agent of Arsenal striker Lucas Perez has flown into London to hold talks with the club over a move for his client, according to a report.

Spanish newspaper AS claim on their website that Rodrigo Fernandez travelled into the capital today (Thursday) to try and urge to club to secure an exit for Perez, who is said to be unhappy at the Emirates Stadium.

It is said that Perez’s former side Deportivo La Coruna are keen on taking back the 28-year-old for a fee in the region of £9million (€10million), although it is reported talks between key figure Fernandez and the Arsenal management are not yet arranged.

The news comes just days after Perez told Spanish news outlet La Voz de Galicia that he wanted to leave the club, claiming that the club had broken promises.

He arrived in North London last summer from Deportivo last summer for a reported fee of £17million, but failed to break into the first team with just 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals.

Football Insider verdict

The presence of Perez’s agent in London signifies the lengths that the player is going to in order to secure his escape from Arsenal this summer. He has endured a difficult time and despite hitting seven goals, he clearly does not feature in Arsene Wenger’s plans in the starting XI next season. The arrival of Alexandre Lacazette, who has taken the number nine shirt worn by Perez last season, might have been the final straw for the Spaniard, and it would be a real surprise to see Arsenal prevent him from leaving before the end of the transfer window. However, whether the £9million offer is enough is another matter, with the Gunners unlikely to want to take an £8million loss just a year after his arrival.
