Exclusive: Danny Mills claims ‘Fabulous’ player would love to join Celtic amid transfer report

Danny Mills has claimed that Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster would be happy to return to Celtic this summer as he is linked with a move back to the Glasgow giants.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds and England defender says that the 31-year-old will be desperate to play after falling down the pecking order on the south coast.

The giant shot-stopper is reportedly being looked at by the Hoops for a return before the Scottish transfer window slams shut as injury threatens to rule current first choice Scott Bain out for a number of months.

Mills says that the former six-cap England international would be more than happy to return to Celtic Park if it means playing regular football, having struggled for minutes at Southampton over the past couple of seasons.

Mills told Football Insider: “I think he’s a fabulous goalkeeper. He’s huge, very, very commanding and clearly a club he knows well and would be happy to go back to.

“It’s still a big club, they might be playing Europa League football and if he’s going to be number one there then he’d definitely want to go back. All players want to play.”

Having moved to Parkhead from Newcastle United, Forster played nearly 200 times for Celtic before returning to England with Southampton, where he has played 125 times for the Saints.

However, he managed to make just one appearance last season, featuring on the penultimate day of the campaign in May, in what was his first outing for the club since December 2017.

In other Celtic news, Jackie McNamara has told Football Insider that Lennon has lost trust in one of his senior stars.
