Rangers player wants £3m move to PL club as swoop plotted – report

Southampton are plotting a swoop to sign Scott Arfield – and the Rangers midfielder is keen on joining the Premier League club, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claim Saints’ director of football operations Ross Wilson knows in-form Arfield well from their time at Falkirk and is convinced he would be eager to return to the English top flight.

The Mirror report Southampton have been keeping close tabs on Arfield as they set their sights on prising him from Glasgow in the summer window.

Football Insider verdict:

Would £3m for a player who has had a decent, if far from brilliant, debut Rangers campaign pretty decent business? Well, yes it is, actually. Steven Gerrard has spoken of Arfield being a key man in his side, as well as a massive influence off the pitch and in the dressing room in terms of his professionalism and work ethic. The 30-year-old has been a mainstay of the side this season and his contribution as a goalscoring midfielder who can effectively slot into any number of positions has made him valuable. But, Arfield is not a regular matchwinner and nor does he run games at SPL level, as a midfielder of his type and salary – he has three years remaining on the £25,000-a-week contract we revealed he signed last year. It would be sound business to cash in on Arfield and use the proceeds towards strengthening a squad that is in need of another major re-boot.

In other Rangers transfer news, it can be REVEALED that the club are in talks to terminate the contract of a £20,000-a-week Ibrox player.
