West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to his side’s failure to win against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The Hammers played out a goalless draw with Stoke away from home at the bet365 Stadium in the Premier League.

Gold has praised the West Ham fans for their support to the team and has lauded Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland, claiming that the 24-year-old was the best player on the pitch.

Summer move for Jack Butland?

Butland has had injury problems during his time at Stoke, but when he is fit, the 24-year-old is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

The former Birmingham City man is a very promising and talented player, and perhaps West Ham should make a move for him in the summer transfer window.

The England international joined Stoke from Birmingham in January 2013 for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £4 million.

Stoke do not have any reason to sell Butland, and the player himself would not be thinking of leaving the Potters in the summer, but it would not hurt the Hammers to make an offer.

Adrian and Darren Randolph are the two main goalkeepers at West Ham at the moment, but Butland, who is potentially world class, would be a massive upgrade.
