Sunderland have been relegated from the Premier League. The 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon means that the Black Cats will play in the Championship next season.

David Moyes’s side have been the worst team in the Premier League this season. Sunderland have been able to pick up only 21 points from 34 matches.

Former Sunderland midfielder Don Hutchison has given his verdict on the club on social networking site Twitter.

Sunderland’s current squad is not good enough for the Premier League, and the club will have to make signings in the summer transfer window.

What the Black Cats need next season are players who have proved themselves in the Championship and can handle the rigorous nature of the division.

Newcastle United got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, but they have bounced straight back from the Championship.

That is what Sunderland should aspire to do, as they could stuck in the Championship for years if they do not get promoted at the first time of asking.
