Tottenham Hotspur fans plea for a new King on Twitter

The in-form Bournemouth ace helped condemn Sunderland to the Championship and fans of Tottenham Hotspur want him at White Hart lane.

Bournemouth forward Josh King has been turning heads in recent weeks and the goal-scoring exploits of the former Manchester United academy graduate seems to have caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

Spurs, who have struggled to find any kind of reliably consistent deputy for their talisman Harry Kane – who has suffered a handful of injuries amid ankle issues this season – attempted to lighten the load on the England striker by parting with £17million last summer to secure the services of Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar.

However, Janssen’s attacking returns have been far from impressive, with the Netherlands international bagging just two goals all campaign.

Conversely, King is experiencing a rich vein of goal scoring form. Indeed, King recorded his 12th goal in his last 14 games, as his 88th-minute strike condemned Sunderland to a 1-0 defeat and subsequent relegation to the Championship.

As a 16-year-old, King was signed by Manchester United from Norwegian side Valerenga in 2008, but failed to make a single Premier League appearance during his five years at Old Trafford; rather experiencing loan moves to Preston North End, Borussia Monchengladbach, Hull City and Blackburn Rovers. After impressing at Ewood Park, a permanent move to Rovers materialised in 2013.

King’s goal-scoring touch has significantly developed since his transfer to the Cherries where, with 21 goals in 65 league games, he has close to a one-in-three strike rate for Eddie Howe’s side.

Fans of the White Hart Lane club have made their viewpoint regarding King known on Twitter – with many seeming to prefer the Norway international to the likes of former Spurs strike Jermaine Defoe, Wilfried Zaha and Burnley’s Andre Gray.

Should any potential interest from Spurs emerge – and King finds his way to North London – then the Bournemouth man would follow in the footsteps of a Tottenham hero, and namesake, in the form of their ex-England international defender and former club captain Ledley King.
