Aston Villa still have more new faces to bring in this summer.
Aston Villa have been busy in the transfer market this summer, but Dean Smith has hinted that there will be plenty more activity yet.
Villa have returned to the Premier League, and have set about keeping their loan stars, with Tryone Mings, Kortney Hause and Anwar El Ghazi.
Villa have also brought in two players Smith has worked with in the past in former Brentford duo Ezri Konsa and Jota, whilst Matt Targett and Wesley have also arrived.
Smith’s spending spree looks set to continue, as the Birmingham Mail report that Reims defender Bjorn Engels and Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz are in the United States to join Villa.
That would take Villa’s signing influx to nine players, but they may be nowhere near finished just yet ahead of their return to the Premier League.
Villa still need a few additions, as a goalkeeper is an absolute must given how Lovre Kalinic has flopped, and Jed Steer may not be of the quality Smith is looking for as a Premier League stopper.
Another winger is likely to arrive, whilst another midfielder should be on the radar too, as well as another striker to support Wesley and Jonathan Kodija after Tammy Abraham’s exit.
Now, Smith has hinted that Villa will be bringing in a number of new faces yet, believing that more work needs to be done, but some of the targets named in the press haven’t even been spoken about at Villa Park.
“There’s still more business to be done,” said Smith. “There’s been reports out there that we’re signing everyone and anyone. Which isn’t the case. A lot of the players we’ve been linked with, we’ve not even spoken about them. That’s the nature of the beast.
“It’s a small window for us, having finished on 27th May and going through until deadline day on 8th August. In that short amount of time we’ve got some really good work done. But we need to do a bit more,” he added.
