Tottenham Hotspur are close to selling Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid for £25 million this summer.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham are closing in on selling Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid, with talks over a £25 million move progressing well.
Trippier’s future has been up in the air for much of the summer after a difficult campaign during which he struggled to recapture the form he showed in the 12 months that culminated with a stunning free-kick in the semi-final of the World Cup.
The Daily Mail reports that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to cash in on the 28-year-old, with one of Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters in line to become Tottenham’s first-choice right-back next season.
And it appears that Spurs’ transfer kitty could be about to receive a significant boost, with the Daily Mail suggesting that Trippier is edging closer to sealing a £25 million move to Wanda Metropolitano after progress was made in the talks between the two clubs.
Aurier has certainly had his high points since arriving in the Premier League, and Walker-Peters has rarely let the team down when he has been called upon, but it may be a gamble to let Trippier go and not get a replacement in.
Trippier has been a superb signing for Tottenham. But receiving £25 million for the former Burnley man after the campaign that he has had looks to be a good piece of business, especially if the funds help Pochettino land some of his remaining targets during the final weeks of the window.
