Transfer window 2016 stats: Numbers behind summer deals as 13 Premier League sides break club record fees 

  • Manchester United broke the world transfer record by signing Paul Pogba

This summer's transfer window smashed last year's total of £870million as Premier League clubs forked out a staggering £1.1billion on strengthening their squads. 

Thirteen of the 20 current Premier League clubs broke their transfer records, with Manchester United making Paul Pogba the most expensive footballer in world football. 

There were also shock loan departures from Manchester City and Arsenal as England internationals Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere joined Torino and Bournemouth respectively.

1,175,230,000 - Premier League clubs spent a cumulative £1.1billion during the course of the window to smash last year's total. Hefty deals for Pogba, John Stones and Granit Xhaka contributed to the staggering figure.

13 - Thirteen Premier League clubs broke their respective transfer records. Manchester United (Paul Pogba - £89.3m), Crystal Palace (Christian Benteke - £32m), Everton (Yannick Bolasie - £30m), Leicester (Islam Slimani - £29.7m), West Ham (Andre Ayew - £20.5m), Southampton (Sofiane Boufal - £16m), Swansea (Borja Baston - £15.5m), Bournemouth (Jordon Ibe - £15m), Sunderland (Didier N'Dong - £13.6m), Hull (Ryan Mason - £13m), Watford (Roberto Pereyra - £13m), West Brom (Nacer Chadli - £13m), Burnley (Jeff Hendrick - £10.5m).

20 - An English side last had the world's most expensive player on their books 20 years ago. Alan Shearer's £15m move from Blackburn to Newcastle was a world record transfer in 1996. Pogba's £89.3m return to United broke Real Madrid's previous record for Gareth Bale. 

89.3 - As mentioned above, Manchester United's deal to re-sign Pogba was the biggest signing this summer. The 23-year-old joined Jose Mourinho's side on August 9. 

47.5 - Manchester City splashed out the biggest fee for an English player this summer when they signed John Stones for £47.5m.

32 - The biggest deal on transfer deadline day was Chelsea's £32m deal for former Stamford Bridge favourite David Luiz.

177 -  Manchester City were the Premier League's biggest spenders having splashed out over £177m on new talent.

17 - Hull City were the Premier League's lowest spenders having spent just over £17m on Ryan Mason (£13m), David Marshall (£3m), Will Keane (£1m) and James Weir (undisclosed). 

12 - Middlesbrough were the busiest Premier League side as they all made 12 signings.

4 - Manchester United may have been one of the biggest spenders but they brought in the least amount of players. 

38 - Chelsea broke their own previous record for players out on loan. Matt Miazga to Vitesse was the 38th player to leave the club on a temporary basis.

27 - Chelsea also hold the record for the most exits this summer as 27 players left the club either on a permanent or temporary basis. 

3 - Middlesbrough, Sunderland and West Ham all brought in three players on loan this summer. 

170 - The amount of money reportedly spent by Premier League clubs on Wednesday.

34 - the number of deals involving Premier League clubs on Wednesday - 16 arrivals, 12 departures and six players moving within the division.

12:05 - Hull's deal to sign Markus Henriksen from AZ Alkmaar was the last Premier League transfer to go through. 

173 - There were 173 Premier League loan deals altogether with Henriksen's move to Hull being the last one to go through.
