St Totteringham’s Day: Twitter reacts as Tottenham ensure they will finish above Arsenal in the Premier League and end the curse of ‘St Totteringham’s Day’

Goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane saw Spurs defeat their north London rivals 2-0 at White Hart Lane this afternoon

TOTTENHAM'S 2-0 defeat of great rivals Arsenal today ensured they will finish above the Gunners in the Premier League for the first time since 1995.

And in turn it has ended the curse of "St Totteringham's Day" - coined by Arsenal fans to be celebrated when their superiority over Spurs is confirmed.

And predictably, it has led to some hilarious reaction on social media.

Jessica O'Leary-Nash decided that the best thing to reflect the ending of St Totteringham's day was by sharing that infamous Dele Alli wave goodbye, sharing it on Twitter.

Jon Glanville shared a video of WWE legend Brock Lesnar in a wrestling ring laughing, adding that "the streak is broken."

Roger Bennett wrote on Twitter: "First Brexit, then Trump, now St. Totteringham's Day cancelled. World. Gone. Mad."

An Arsenal fan pointed out that St Totteringham's Day was even celebrated with a squad consisting of "Almunia, Chamkh and Squilacci" - clearly having a dig at the current crop at the Emirates.

Spurs crushed Arsenal in their final north London derby at White Hart Lane with two second-half goals inside three minutes that look to have ended the Gunners’ top-four dreams.

Dele Alli fired the home side ahead on 55 minutes after the Arsenal defence did a terrible job clearing an initial attack and gifted him the chance to open the scoring.

And, moments after the restart, Gabriel lunged out a lazy leg and tripped Harry Kane to hand Spurs a penalty.

Kane bounced up off the floor and rifled the ball past Petr Cech, low to the keeper’s right, the former Chelsea man stood hopelessly in the middle of his goal expecting a shot down the centre.
