Everton's pursuit of Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson is fast becoming one of the transfer sagas of this summer window.

It has been over a fortnight since the Iceland international opted out of the club's pre-season tour of the United States, yet there has been no resolution in the form of either a sale to the Toffees of a complete dismissal of the notion of a sale by the Swans.

It could rumble on for a while longer yet but, meanwhile, there is still other business to be done in terms of incomings and outgoings as the window enters its final five weeks.

Here, we take a look at the Swans squad by position and weigh up where additions are likely to be made, and where some players may find themselves heading for the exit.

Goalkeepers

Sweden goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt

Lukasz Fabianski and Erwin Mulder appear certainties to be first and second choice for the season ahead. The Pole has been used sparingly during pre-season as the Dutchman and Kristoffer Nordfeldt have had the majority of the game time.

Sweden international Nordfeldt is expected to leave on loan before August is out. Having sat on the bench for each of the last two seasons there is a realisation he is unlikely to improve unless he can get some regular first-team action under his belt.

Mulder's arrival allows Swansea to cover Nordfeldt's exit, with several clubs enquiring about the 28-year-old.

Mark Birighitti is also expected to move on. The Australian did not play a single minute of first-team action last season and had a trial spell with Dutch club Willem II late in the campaign.

Full-backs

Andy Yiadom(C) of Barnsley challenged by Anthony Knockaert (L) and Glenn Murray of Brighton & Hove Albion

This is an area Swansea are known to be keen to strengthen.

Kyle Naughton has signed a new contract this summer and has Angel Rangel for competition. On the left-hand side Martin Olsson made his mark following his January arrival with Stephen Kingsley performing well when deputising for the Swede.

But there is a desire to add another option in this area, with Swansea - having jettisoned flop Franck Tabanou - mindful of just how quickly they found themselves in a situation where Leroy Fer was forced into emergency full-back duty during the second half of last season.

Andy Yiadom at Barnsley is one option under consideration, with some familiar from recent transfer windows such as Carl Jenkinson, Gregory van der Wiel and Kieran Gibbs linked at various stages over the summer.

Centre-halves

Kyle Bartley of Swansea City

This was a position where Swansea were known to be very keen to make an addition in January, but in the end they missed out.

Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez went on to form a solid pairing at the back under Paul Clement, while Kyle Bartley has been given the chance to show what he can following an impressive season on loan at Leeds.

His return has seen Jordi Amat join Real Betis on loan and there has been little talk of centre-half targets so far this summer with Mike van der Hoorn also on the books.

But don't be surprised if Swansea look into the possibility of an addition if the right option becomes available. Andrea Ranocchia and Lisandro Lopez were among the men pursued in January.

Midfielders

Roque Mesa signs for Swansea City

Sigurdsson's future is the big talking point in midfield. If he leaves Swansea are ready to break their transfer record in order to replace the Iceland international with Jonathan Viera and Nacer Chadli the leading contenders to emerge over the last couple of weeks.

If Sigurdsson stays - and Swansea are not understood to be dependent on a sale to make deals other than signing a replacement happen - they will look at potential back-up options.

Roque Mesa has been the headline arrival of the summer to date, while Jack Cork was sold to Burnley after the Clarets made an offer Swansea felt too good to turn down.

But they remain heavy on bodies in midfield. Ki Sung-yueng is entering the final year of his career and offers for the South Korean would be considered. The likes of Jay Fulton and Matt Grimes may well find themselves available for loan with Leon Britton, Tom Carroll and Leroy Fer adding to the competition for places.

Wingers

Jefferson Montero in action for Swansea City against Barnet

Swansea's desire for additions here is well-documented. If the right offers come in Jefferson Montero and Mo Barrow will find themselves on the way out of the Liberty, with Al-Rayyan and Reading respectively showing the most interest in those two players.

With Nathan Dyer still a little way from making his comeback from a ruptured Achilles, that would leave Luciano Narsingh and Wayne Routledge.

Viera and Chadli can both play wide, but they are very much being viewed as Sigurdsson replacements, while highly-rated youngster Daniel James has gone out on loan to Shrewsbury.

Swansea's performances towards the end of last season with a midfield diamond and no orthodox wingers may take the pressure off the chase for reinforcements, but there is a hope there will be a new face in this area of the field by the end of August.

Strikers

Wilfried Bony

The big news here is the potential Liberty return of fan favourite Wilfried Bony. A deal has been put in place to bring the Ivorian back from Manchester City, with the ball in Swansea's court to discuss personal terms and give the transfer the green light.

However, it is believed this is a deal that only goes through if Fernando Llorente leaves, with Chelsea again reportedly in pursuit of the Spaniard having failed to secure his services in January.

The situation is complicated by Llorente's fractured arm, which may see him miss the start of the Premier League season.

A touted move for Leeds striker Chris Wood is rated as highly unlikely, while Tammy Abraham has shown some encouraging signs since completing his loan move from Chelsea. Borja Baston and Bafetimbi Gomis have been moved on.

Oli McBurnie, one of the star performers in the double-winning Under-23s team, is likely to go out on loan - preferably into the Championship - for more first-team experience.

Regardless of whether Llorente leaves, Swansea are thought to still be looking to bring in another striker.
