Mikel blasts Croatia ahead of final group game

Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel has criticized Croatia's plan to rest their key players ahead of their final group game against Iceland in group D of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Croatia are currently sitting at the top of the group after defeating Mikel's Super Eagles of Nigeria by two goals to nothing in their first game before thrashing Argentina by three goals to nothing in their second game.

As things stand Croatia will most likely finish top of the group, but their game against Iceland is relevant for Nigeria, Argentina, and Iceland who are yet to secure qualification.

"I don't think it's the best thing to do," he told Goal. "This is a massive tournament - you can't rest people and give others a chance of qualification."

Nigeria boosted their chance of qualifying from this group after defeating Iceland by two goals to nothing on Friday to stay second in the group.

The Super Eagles, who are made up of stars like Arsenal's Alex Iwobi, and Victor Moses have to beat Argentina in their final game to secure qualification from the group.

The Nigerian side can still make it to the last 16 with a draw depending on what happens between Croatia and Iceland.
