Roma chasing Maarten Stekelenberg

Roma chasing Maarten Stekelenberg

24 July 2011 - 07:10

Italian giants Roma continue to scour the European transfer market for new players and have moved a step closer to signing Ajax and Dutch international goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenberg.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • Roma's first offer of a reported £4m was rejected by Ajax last week, and the Dutch side will only be prepared to let their keeper leave should their £6m valuation be matched.

The player himself has already told Ajax directors that he wants to leave the Amsterdam Arena in favour of a new challenge.

Ajax technical director Danny Blind said of Roma's offer: "The deal is not done. Ajax are waiting for Roma to change the offer.

"It is clear we don't want to lose Stekelenburg but, on the other hand, it is his sporting wish [to go]. We want the right price for him though and that's more than €5 million."
