Everton have finally completed a 1m GBP deal for Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson. The player quit Manchester United this month, as the Reds stood to miss out on any fee with the player out of contract this summer.

 • According to reports, Gibson had been warned that his place in the Ireland national team would be under threat unless he played first team football more regularly. For over two weeks, Everton had been chasing the centre midfielder and negotiating with United; who requested around 2m GBP for his transfer.

Cash-strapped Everton reportedly paid 1m GBP for his services, with a further 1.2m GBP payable depending on appearances and club success.
"I think I'm a goalscoring midfielder and hopefully I can get a few goals," Gibson said.
"I've scored a few long-range shots - I don't think I've scored one inside the box to be honest - and if I score goals it's a bonus for me.
"I'm just looking to do as well as I can for the team."
