Wigan make enquiry for Nicky Maynard

Wigan make enquiry for Nicky Maynard

26 January 2012 - 00:50

Wigan's busy January transfer window seems to show no sign of slowing down, as the Latics confirmed that they have made an enquiry for Bristol City forward Nicky Maynard.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Spurs, Gilchrist starts
  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • The 25-year-old striker has been linked with a move to the DW Stadium for two weeks, and there appears to be some rivalry to complete a move for the player.

A statement on the Wigan website read: "Contrary to heavy media speculation, no official bid has been made to Bristol City for striker Nicky Maynard and there have been no official talks with the player or the club."

At Bristol City, Maynard has been put on the transfer list after failing to agree a new deal with his club. Bristol City would be willing to sell for as little as £2 million, around the same fee they paid for the player back in 2008.

Wigan chief exec Johnathan Jackson said: "An informal enquiry was made as to the player's availability last week, but that really is as far as it goes at this stage. We are therefore disappointed by suggestions that talks are in an advanced stage.
