Chelsea to hijack Gregory van der Wiel move

Chelsea to hijack Gregory van der Wiel move

27 January 2012 - 05:50

Valencia's move for Dutch defender Gregory van der Wiel appears to have fallen through, and Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is now considering a 5.7 million GBP offer for the full back.

  • Chelsea urged to sign Man City star on free transfer
  • Chelsea squad want Xabi Alonso as manager
  • van der Wiel has been linked with a move away from Ajax for most of the year, and Valencia had agreed a fee with his club over a month ago; but the interest from Chelsea appeared to slow down their efforts to complete a move for the Dutch international.<br />

Andre Villas-Boas is a huge fan of the defender, and could even offer Portuguese defender Paulo Ferreira as a part of a deal to bring the Dutchman to Stamford Bridge.<br />

Van Der Wiel is expected to quit Ajax before the end of January, as he has already demanded a move away from the Amsterdam Arena twice this year.
