Sunderland offer Kevin Davies short term deal?

27 January 2012 - 05:59

Sunderland have offered 34-year-old veteran striker Kevin Davies a six month contract at the Stadium of Light. Davies has been told that he is free to leave Bolton this month as Owen Coyle looks to tidy up his squad in preparation for the second half of the season.

  • The Black Cats' manager Martin O'Neill has always been a huge fan of Davies, and previously failed in his attempts to persuade Davies to quit the Reebok whilst he tried to sign the striker for Aston Villa two years ago.

The 34-year-old has been targeted by O'Neill, who admitted this week that he would investigate loan moves for new players: “The loan market is something that ourselves and others are looking at but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of stuff happening.

"We had a passive interest in things but the Nicklas Bendtner situation – with him being out for weeks – means that it is now something that we really have to look at."

Wolves, West Brom, Norwich and Rangers have also been linked with a move for the burly forward.
