Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is considering a move for Portuguese striker Hugo Almeida. Almeida currently plays for Turkish giants Besiktas, with whom he has been playing for just over a year. Almeida would be available for around $4 million.
The former Porto and Werder Bremen striker has enjoyed a very successful spell in Turkey, and his goals have helped Besiktas to a domestic cup success last year.
Sunderland are currently short of striking options, and Nicklas Bendtner sustained a facial injury two weeks ago and Asamoah Gyan remains on loan in the UAE until the end of the year.
Almeida has reportedly been offered to several Premier League clubs by his agent, but Sunderland are in pole position to land the striker.
