Chelsea boss Villas-Boas eyes Lampard stay

27 February 2012 - 13:13

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas wants evergreen midfielder Frank Lampard to commit his long term future to the club, despite the England international midfielder admitting there were issues between him and his manager. Lampard was back amongst the goalscorers on Sunday, on the scoresheet with a typical finish against Bolton Wanderers.

  • Lampard has endured a stop-start season at Chelsea so far this year, and his stuttering performances for the West London side have also coincided with a slump in form for the Blues.

Despite Lampard's disappointment that Portuguese manager Villas-Boas does not always have a place for him in his first team squad, the former Porto coach wants Lampard to stay at the club beyond this season.

When asked about Lampard staying at the club, Villas-Boas said: "I hope so. It does not depend on me. It depends on three parts - I want him, the person wants to stay and the club wants him.

"Frank goes on and on breaking the club's records and that is important for him. I congratulate him for that. He is a player who has been involved with all managers before and played in most of the games.

"The only difference this year from the years before is that we have more competition in midfield and things become more difficult for everybody. But Frank is now in the top five of players most used so he is up there with the best."
