Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso looked delighted after he helped his side secure a 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Barcelona last night, and seemingly helped secure his side the La Liga title.
"It's a major victory but not a definitive one," Alonso said. "We have taken an important step forward and now we have to finish it off.
"We controlled the game to perfection and the result is fantastic. Now we have another crucial match on Wednesday.
"Camp Nou is a ground where Barca often win, but we managed to beat a team that many people say is the best in the world.
"We fought with humility and showed we are a great side."
Real Madrid will now prepare for the second leg tie against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and will hope to wrap up a La Liga title next weekend.
