Shevchenko turns down Ukraine offer

19 November 2012 - 12:34

Ukrainian legend Andrei Shevchenko has turned down the chance to manage his country. The former Chelsea and AC Milan striker had been linked with the vacant national team's managerial post.

  • Chelsea want to pay only £25m for Alejandro Garnacho
  • Marseille table bid for Chelsea defender

  • Shevchenko had reportedly been offered the role last week, but instead decided to turn down the role as he feels he is too inexperienced for the position.

"I consider that taking over the national squad will be a bit too hasty a move for me," Shevchenko said. "I hope that the FFU will accept my decision with understanding.

"I'm really grateful to the FFU and our football chief Anatoly Konkov for their top-level trust in me which they showed by offering me the post of the national manager."
