Arsenal and Barcelona set to battle Man City for the signing of Omar Abdulrahman

26 July 2013 - 01:07

Manchester City are currently regarded as favourites to land Al Ain's Omar Abdulrahman according to reports from the Daily Express.Arsenal and Barcelona are also understood to be monitoring the progress of the talented UAE International.

The 21 year-old nearly signed for the Citizens last summer until a denial of a work permit made the deal come to a close. The UAE International made crucial contributions in his national team's triumph in the 2013 Gulf Cup of Nations.

Al Ain manager Mohammed Obeid confirmed the interest in Abdulrahman as he said, “Omar has received many offers to move. We have studied them and discussed them all, but the final decision will be taken by the club's management.”

According to the Daily Express, Manchester City are still keen on the player, as Man City Executive Brian Marwood said, “We had seen him at various tournaments but obviously we saw him closer to home at the Olympics and he did very, very well. There are some real challenges getting a player like him to be able to play in England which is very frustrating because it’s one that we would seriously look at. We continue to monitor him, we keep in touch with him, we are aware of how he’s developing.”

However, Manchester City will have to face competition from the likes of Arsenal and Catalan giants Barcelona as they try to add the talented star to their ever growing cabinet of attacking midfielders.
