Former Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has revealed that first team chances motivated him to leave Anfield this summer as he signed a four year contract with Bolton Wanderers.
The 24 year old spent the entire last seasonat the Reebok and made 37 appearances for the Trotters scoring 2 goals.
Spearing impressed Dougie Freedman during his stay last season and was being tipped for a return to the Championship club this summer. The midfielder, who graduated from Liverpool's youth team, revealed that he will always remain a fan of the Reds but first team football holds more importance to him.
"I will always be a Liverpool fan. It's been a massive part of my life and I thank everybody who helped make it happen for me," Spearing told Sky Sports News Radio.
"A lot of dreams came true, but now in football terms it was time for me to move on and get regular football.
"Regular football for me is the main thing for me now.
"Last year was a massive time for me as I played nearly 40 times and it was something I wanted again.
"I sat down with Brendan [Rodgers] and we had a good chat and it came to a point that [playing regularly] wasn't going to happen at Liverpool, and we both ended it in a nice way."
